Sevenoaks Aerial Photos

Sunshine in Sevenoaks last weekend, although the temperature was quite low. I was visiting an old friend and took the chance to get some aerial photos of the town. Lovely place btw.

For those who never heard about Sevenoaks, here is some info about it:

Sevenoaks is a town in the county of Kent in South East England, located about 30 miles southeast of London. It is known for its historic charm, picturesque scenery, and easy access to the city of London. Sevenoaks is a popular commuter town, with many residents working in London and other nearby cities. The town has a variety of shops, restaurants, schools, and leisure activities, making it an attractive place to live for families and professionals. The surrounding area is also known for its beautiful countryside, including the North Downs and the Kent Downs, which offer a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and horse riding.

Unleashing the Benefits of Drone-Powered Aerial Photography.

Aerial photography is a powerful tool for capturing stunning images of the world from above. In the past, aerial photography was typically done using a helicopter, which was a relatively expensive and time-consuming process. However, with the advent of drones, aerial photography has become much more accessible and affordable. Here are some of the advantages of using a drone for aerial photography over a helicopter:

  1. Cost: One of the biggest advantages of using a drone for aerial photography is the cost. Drones are significantly less expensive than helicopters, and they are also much easier to operate and maintain. This makes them an ideal choice for photographers and videographers who want to capture aerial footage without breaking the bank.

  2. Flexibility: Drones are much more flexible than helicopters when it comes to aerial photography. They can fly at lower altitudes and maneuver more easily in tight spaces, allowing photographers to capture aerial footage in ways that were previously not possible with a helicopter.

  3. Speed: Another advantage of using a drone for aerial photography is speed. Drones can be take off quickly and easily, and they can get up into the air and start capturing images in a matter of seconds. This makes them a great choice for photographers who need to capture aerial footage in a timely manner.

  4. Safety: Safety is always a concern when it comes to aerial photography, and drones are generally safer than helicopters. Drones are much smaller and lighter, and they are equipped with multiple safety features such as obstacle avoidance and automatic return-to-home functions.

  5. Accessibility: Drones are much more accessible to the general public than helicopters. With a relatively low cost of entry and easy-to-use software, anyone can get into aerial photography using a drone, you just need a lot of practice and get uso to compose images from high up, which is completely different from the ground, and that takes time to master.

In conclusion, the use of drones for aerial photography has become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason, it made aerial photography more democratic as I say all the time. They are way more cost-effective, flexible, and safe than helicopters, and they offer photographers a range of advantages that were previously not possible. Whether you're a professional photographer or just someone who loves to capture images of the world from above, using a drone for aerial photography is definitely worth considering.

One this to consider is that a camera mounted in a drone sometime might not deliver an image quality that a pro dslr/mirrorless camera can archive, and the maximum altitude you can fly in most of the cases is only 400ft (120m), which depending the size of the area you need to photograph, might be too low, that’s when the helicopter comes in action, and I love it!

Flannels’s New Liverpool Flagship

I've had the distinct pleasure of capturing stunning images of Flannels' major stores across the country, each one more remarkable than the last. With state-of-the-art design elements provided by EB Design, the interiors are nothing short of breathtaking. A particularly standout location was the Flannels' new flagship in Liverpool. This monumental project posed unique challenges, including its expansive size and the necessity to shoot in the late hours. Despite these hurdles, I was able to successfully capture the distinct essence of this flagship store from late evening to the early morning. Explore a selection of the resultant images below, with more readily available online.

Innovative Modular Housing Project: YMCA Thames Gateway by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners

In recent months, I've had the pleasure of photographing an exciting new project, the YMCA Thames Gateway, conceived by world-renowned architecture firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP). This was more than just an architectural shoot – it was an opportunity to document a groundbreaking project reshaping the future of affordable, sustainable housing in the heart of Romford, Essex.

YMCA Thames Gateway, an initiative under the umbrella of the YMCA Thames Gateway Group, is an inventive housing development addressing the long-standing issue of affordable move-on accommodation. Its design, execution, and purpose represent a monumental leap forward for the organization and those it serves.

The heart of this project is Park View, a development comprising 39 modular residential units. This innovative design allows the YMCA to offer high-quality, affordable housing to single individuals transitioning from the main hostel towards independence. With each unit constructed off-site in Derbyshire, they were then transported and assembled on the site in Essex. From the start of installation in July 2020, it took just half a year to complete the final home assembly in January 2021.

The compact, self-contained homes within Park View bring a sense of community, offering generous, high-quality spaces featuring exceptional insulation, daylight, and acoustics. Leveraging rapid, cost-effective volumetric technology, this method of construction introduces a sustainable, equitable approach to house building – an innovation we're likely to see more frequently in the future.

The project's success wouldn't have been possible without a diligent team working tirelessly behind the scenes. Their collective efforts resulted in a collection of images that truly embody the spirit of the project and a captivating short video detailing the project and its residents.

One such resident, Paul Oshodin, has expressed the transformative impact of moving into Park View. The stability provided by the YMCA and the sense of autonomy in his new home have been invaluable. Projects like the YMCA Thames Gateway demonstrate the power of innovative architecture in shaping and improving lives.

Documenting the YMCA Thames Gateway project was a rewarding experience. The fusion of architecture, community, and transformation is truly inspiring. I look forward to continuing to share stories of innovation and resilience through my lens. Stay tuned for more projects that are reshaping our urban landscape.

Harness the Power of Photos and Videos: Case Study - One Dean Street

In the realm of real estate, captivating potential buyers or renters at the very first glance is crucial. This principle was fully embraced in a project I recently executed for BNP Paribas Real Estate - the promotion of One Dean Street, a state-of-the-art building located in one of the most trendy parts of London, Soho.

High-quality photographs have long been a staple of real estate marketing, beautifully capturing the static features of properties. For One Dean Street, the brochure, designed by Sutton Young, was fully composed with my photographs, which provided striking visuals of the property's unique features and architectural brilliance. You can check the brochure by clicking on the button below.

However, for this project, we took the marketing strategy a step further by integrating dynamic video content, adding a new dimension to the property showcase. A well-produced video offers a virtual walkthrough that creates a fluid sense of space, layout, and scale that static images alone may not convey fully. The promotional video for One Dean Street did just that, bringing the property to life and making prospective buyers feel as if they are right there, exploring their potential new office space.

The powerful combination of photos and videos not only offers a more holistic view of the property but also enhances their individual strengths. While photographs grab immediate attention with striking visuals, videos sustain that interest, providing an immersive experience that static images alone cannot.

Moreover, the storytelling power of videos perfectly complements the snapshots provided by photographs. By using videos, real estate agents can highlight the lifestyle and unique features of the property, creating an emotional connection that often leads to quicker decisions and higher satisfaction rates.

The shareability of photos and videos across various digital platforms also enhances your property's visibility, leading to a wider reach and increasing chances of quicker transactions. This combination also improves your agency's digital footprint and SEO performance, setting you apart from competitors who rely on traditional methods.

Investing in this powerful blend of photos and videos may indeed require a higher upfront cost compared to relying on photos alone, but the potential returns are well worth it. More engagements, quicker sales, higher prices, and heightened client satisfaction all contribute to a rewarding return on investment. As demonstrated by the successful promotion of One Dean Street, blending high-quality photographs and engaging videos can truly revolutionize your real estate marketing strategy.

Piezography now available on the Image Print Centre

I’m proud to announce that the Image Print Centre is the first an only printing studio in the UK to offer Piezography prints on large format. We are equipped with a converted EPSON SureColor SC-P8000 110cm (44”) wide and Piezography Pro Inks, plus a selection of the most beautiful papers on the market to make the best out of this system, the result is just the best Black and White prints in the world.

What is Piezography?

Piezography is a brand of monochromatic inks and software that produce what is unarguably the absolute highest-standard in black and white printing. It was first introduced as a Trademarked brand in 2000 and has gone through successive improvements and changes over the years.

It’s primary purpose is printing black & white photographs with carbon. Today, it is a fully mature and developed product with benefits that remain the target of past and current OEMs. It’s a notch well above current OEM systems and sets a level of its own.

One of the benefits of the Piezography is to double the optical resolution of the converted printer. They also produce more printable locations for microdots allowing a substantially smoother tonal lattitude. Combined with up to seven shades of carbon ink, these proprietary media profiles produce greater accuity and detail, smoother skin tones, increased shadow and highlight detail, and substantially more gray levels than the Epson ABW system. Piezography is the only system capable of printing tens of thousands of gray levels making it a perfect accompaniement to 16 bit raw photography.

The Piezography system is totally democratic. An iPhonographer can make extraordinary 20x24 prints with a Piezography system. Owners of the new high resolution cameras, and those investing in Leica sensors will finally see the gains that these investments in gear can produce. The plain fact is that Piezography squeezes the best out of any digital camera. When film is scanned, a much greater tonal lattitude can be printed than in the darkroom. When used to make digital negatives, Piezography emulates tradtional film without any of the digital artifacts associated with making inkjet film.

The final proof is always in the printing. The most striking characteristic of a Piezography print is produced from the increased load of high quality carbon pigment being printed. The dMax will pick up nearly a full stop as it dries. The quality and preparation of the carbon printed in a thick emulsion on the fine art matte printmaking paper produces an effect not unlike light reflecting off the dust of a butterflies wings. Piezography when printed on fine art baryta surfaces eliminates all gloss differential and bronzing.

Capturing the Grandeur: An Insight into Warehouse Interior Photography

As a seasoned photographer, there's a certain allure to shooting vast environments, particularly warehouse interiors—a delightful niche of industrial photography. These spaces, with their striking scale and complexity, offer a unique challenge that is incredibly rewarding to tackle.

Photographing the interiors of warehouses is an exploration of grandeur. These vast expanses often span hundreds of thousands of square feet, filled with towering racks and buzzing with the activity of forklifts. Capturing such scale requires specialized tools and techniques, such as a medium format camera paired with top-tier tilt-shift lenses. This combination produces crystal clear images with flawless straight lines, effectively capturing the awe-inspiring scale and depth of these industrial behemoths.

Beyond the physical dimensions, warehouse photography is about translating energy into visuals. By using slower shutter speeds, I'm able to slightly blur the movement of forklifts darting down the aisles. This technique imbues the static images with a sense of dynamism and action, encapsulating the hive of activity that is a warehouse in full operation.

In essence, the art of warehouse interior photography is not merely about documenting a space. It's about capturing the very essence of the industrial world—the scale, the dynamics, and the raw energy—and communicating it through vivid, high-quality images.
